How wonderful to have a former student spend her interim semester with me and my students. Chelsea Fairclough is a grade nine student and artist at SAS. Last year, Chelsea had her first solo exhibition at the Redot Gallery. Having a successful young artist in my room to help my students find their inner artist was very exciting for my intermediate school kids. To my students, Chelsea is a rockstar! She also happens to be quadriplegic. She uses the wheels of her wheelchair to create her bold abstract canvases.
This week she demonstrated her painting technique and created lessons for my grade three through five students to help them experience a little bit of what she feels when she is painting. Take a look at all the amazing fun and art that was created this week.
When asked what they had learned by having Chelsea as their teacher this week here are just a few things they had to say.
