After exploring the lines and characters that Keith Haring frequently used, grade three students made prints inspired by the famous Pop Artist. Students created their draft on paper and then transferred their designs on to a Styrofoam printing plate. After the initial print was made students picked one object on their print that the wanted to stand out by printing it with black ink. Take a look at the prints Ms Wilcox and Ms Hooykaas’ classes created. Below that video is the video explaining how we created the prints.
This week students from over 21 classes have participated in The Great Art Quest. Many have found all 6 of the works that have been hidden around the school. Lots of people were able to identify 5 of the works. There is one work that has been found but no one has correctly identified it.

Great Art Quest Graph – Week 2
Thank you to all of the parents who stopped by Studio C100 last night. It was so nice to meet the parents of so many of my amazing students. I have posted some of the instructional videos I shared last night on the Project Demo Page.
One of the things I am most excited about is The Great Art Quest. Students have been searching the school looking for the hidden artworks. With each picture there is a QR code that links to a Google Form that they need to fill out to win points for their class.

The response has been amazing. It is so great hearing kids talking about art during their recess. Students are constantly running up and telling me that they have “found the Van Gogh” or “I scanned Mona Lisa.” I will post the points each before Monday morning each week.
It has been so fun to look back over a year filled with fun, creativity and learning. Take a look at what the young artists in Studio C100 will remember.
Once again my students were lucky enough to have artist Chelsea Fairclough join us in class during high school interim week. Chelsea was my student way back when she was in grade four and five. Hard to believe she is a high school senior already. Chelsea has been quadriplegic since grade four. That has not stopped her from being an artist. Her unique ‘wheelie art’ has her dancing across the canvas in her chair, inspired by her favourite songs. She shared her technique and inspiration with my grade three to five students. It was great fun and truly inspiring. Check out just a few highlights from the week in the video below.
The grade 5 students in Studio C100 recently participated in a stop motion film festival. Their mission was to create an original stop motion animated video at least 30 seconds long. The videos needed to have a soundtrack, credits and a title. Oh, one more thing it had to include at least one can of Campbell’s Tomato Soup, in honour of our Artist of the Month for December, Andy Warhol. Classes voted on which videos they believed were the best. The votes have been counted and the winners announced. Click on the links below to see the video that won.

* Adventures of Soupy & Dad was the overall winner.
Another award was given for the best sets, costumes and special effects. It was given to Bjorn, William and Ewan for their film Strike of the Sith.
Azza Fahmy was our Artist of the Month for November, her jewellery designs where an inspiration to my students. Studio C100 was soon a little jewellery making factory. Grade 3 took washers and transformed them into beautiful pendents. Grade 4 used collage techniques and found objects to create broaches. Grade 5 took Azza Fahmy’s advice and looked for inspiration around the school. Using the photos that they took of different patterns, textures and designs around the campus they designed their own jewellery using Shrinky Dinks, beads, glass gems and wire. Take a look at just a sample of what has been created in the last couple of weeks.
Hard to believe the art show has come and gone already. Thanks to everyone who helped make it a success. I loved watching students share their work with parents, classmates and teachers. It was great fun back in the classroom as well, with parents and students working together to create some pretty amazing art.
Inspired by the jungles of Henri Rousseau’s imagination, my grade four students used modeling clay to ‘paint’ their own imaginary scenes. Students loved this project because, let’s face it, who doesn’t love to play with modeling clay. They had fun ‘inventing’ new colours by mixing the various clays together. Using texture to make their imaginary landscapes more interesting was another challenge that they faced. You can see their work in the Grade Four Gallery, their blogs or check out the video below.
Pretty amazing what you can do with some masking tape and paint. Grade three classes in Ms Mac’s room created these faux leather bracelets using masking tape, paint, some string and some beads. Check out the bracelets that Mrs. Bailey’s class made.
